Training tomorrow’s knowledge workers
Contributing to Singapore’s future, ILOG has joined the Training and Attachment Programme (TAP), an initiative started by Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB: www.sedb.com) to create the country’s next generation of highly skilled knowledge workers. Launched in 1998, the program is the product of Singapore’s effort to cultivate a skilled workforce to support the country’s rapidly growing information economy.

“ILOG has the know-how, experience and facilities to help Singapore acquire new knowledge and upgrade professional skills,” says Linda Sein, director of the EDB Industry Promotions Division.

ILOG is training eight people from the program at the ILOG Education Services centers in France and the United States. They are in a 15-month program of hands-on product and application development with ILOG’s advanced business rule, optimization and visualization technologies.

EDNAEDNA
Setting energy standards
ILOG Germany has joined the Energy Data, Norms and Automation (EDNA) initiative, a project founded in Germany and aimed at standardizing core technology and information exchange in Europe’s energy industry. Bringing together 55 leading energy and IT companies, the initiative is working to remove the barriers between IT systems to ease the flow of data among energy market participants, including equipment vendors and power suppliers.

ILOG has long contributed to the European power industry, with a variety of advanced solutions and applications. For this initiative, ILOG is providing its business rule products to ensure the seamless flow of data between companies. ILOG business rules check data, automatically applying decisions for security, compliance and other key processing functions.

Several European power suppliers already rely on ILOG technologies, including Electricité de France, Gaz de France, RWE AG and Ruhrgas.

ILOG CEO Haren addresses startups as industry veteran
ILOG President and CEO Pierre Haren was among this year’s featured speakers at the eighth annual Enterprise Outlook private-equity conference (www.enterpriseoutlook.com) in Palo Alto, Calif.

Started in 1996 by Technologic Partners, Enterprise Outlook spotlights new technologies and startups judged most likely to succeed. This year’s conference featured several highly competitive venture-backed companies that are proving or developing revenue-generating niches in Web services, business analytics, outsourcing, and supply-chain and relationship management.

Mr. Haren addressed the attendees as a veteran entrepreneur, discussing the history of enterprise software and describing how ILOG grew into a leader in the field. He also stated that emerging technologies such as business process management and business rule management were likely to spur the next round of growth in the software industry.

The other speakers included Dennis Moore, vice president of cross applications at SAP Labs, and Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president of the software group at Sun Microsystems.

Technologic Partners also announced the winners of its Investors’ Choice award at the conclusion of the two-day conference. Technologic Partners is a publishing and events firm that has been covering venture capital and high-tech startups since 1984. The company publishes the VentureWire newsletters, ComputerLetter and Semiconductor Innovation Letter, and produces a series of premier investor conferences.
