Nanyang Polytechnic
1st accredited BRMS program
As worldwide demand for solutions based on business rule management systems (BRMSs) rises, so, too, does demand for people to develop and implement them. Responding to demand for BRMS systems in the Far East, ILOG has joined forces with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Singapore Computer Systems Ltd. (SCS) to create a BRMS curriculum at the NYP School of Information Technology.
The new Enterprise Business Rule Solutions Center is the first fully accredited program for BRMS application development offered by a tertiary institution. More than 2,100 students are expected to go through the program in the next three years. Those who complete the program will graduate with skills for developing and maintaining BRMS applications.
The curriculum includes the opportunity to work on more than 15 real-world projects. The students will also be given internship opportunities at ILOG, SCS and other BRMS solution providers. In addition to the supported internships, ILOG is contributing its BRMS products and training for NYP instructors. The training and internships will be conducted at ILOG research and development centers in France and California.
Already, 20 NYP instructors have been trained on ILOG Rules for .NET, a key offering in ILOG’s BRMS product line. Their course work included working with SCS to develop a purchasing request management system for a bank in Singapore, a project that took just three months to complete. The students in the program will be given similar projects to work on at the center. One of their objectives will be to create a repository of proof-of-concept applications to be used in jumpstarting software development projects for companies.
“We are glad to be one of the first few local organizations to explore the use of BRMS technology extensively,” says Edward Ho, deputy principal/technology at NYP. “BRMS applications can deliver the flexibility and agility that enterprises need to stay competitive, and enhance the entire policy management infrastructure of the enterprise at the same time. This collaboration will greatly benefit our students, and their competency in BRMS will add value to their skill sets as they join the workforce.”
