ILOG Releases Faster Optimization Software
New ILOG Solver and ILOG Scheduler version also greatly improves personnel scheduling

ILOG has released a new version of ILOG Solver and ILOG Scheduler, two cornerstones of the optimization software market.

ILOG Solver is a core software engine of the ILOG Optimization Suite, and ILOG Scheduler is the engine’s scheduling add-on. In Version 4.4, the ILOG components are easier to use and, according to in-house benchmarks, five times faster than their previous version. They extend optimization to a broader range of problems, especially in the area of personnel scheduling.

"ILOG Solver and ILOG Scheduler have made optimization available to developers everywhere," says Joel Gay, product manager for ILOG Solver and ILOG Scheduler.

"Today’s complex work regulations and flexible time schedules require real-time scheduling and optimization systems. The new ILOG Scheduler is able to handle more complexity and deliver better work schedules much faster because of a new set of powerful global constraints."

Companies everywhere are having to reconsider their work schedules. In France, they are reorganizing around a new 35-hour workweek, and throughout Europe, utilities are changing to meet deregulation challenges. Furthermore, companies all over the world are adapting their work schedules to better serve their customers. ILOG Solver’s new global constraints will greatly simplify this worldwide effort.

Personnel Scheduling
By using ILOG Solver and ILOG Scheduler, system integrators and independent software vendors can provide scheduling systems that optimize work schedules with constraints for such considerations as overtime and team composition. Primarily for personnel scheduling, the new features of ILOG Scheduler further facilitate the modeling of real-world problems.

For instance, you can now represent a scheduling criterion for an airline crew, such as the need for members who speak French, with only one line of code where several lines are needed with comparable systems.

Already widely employed in personnel scheduling, ILOG optimization components are used by many leading world-class companies, including American Management Systems, Sabre Technology Solutions, Air France, and British Telecom.

Test-Drive ILOG JViews 3.0 Beta
Better graphics and faster development

Take a spin with the beta version of the soon-to-be-released ILOG JViews 3.0.

Now available at www.ilog.com, the beta will let you discover the visualization component that developers in several industries have come to depend on for unmatched performance in Java graphical user interfaces (GUIs).

ILOG JViews is packaged as a library of prebuilt JavaBeans, high-level design and editing tools, and a full-featured application program interface (API).

The JavaBeans enable you to explore many of the key features in the library through your favorite GUI builder. The tools allow you to use maps in a wide range of formats and build custom graphics. Finally, the API lets developers create the exact look and feel desired by the end user.

Java Visualization Suite
ILOG JViews comes as a suite of five modules:

  • Graphics Framework: a core module that all the other modules rely on
  • Maps: a module that provides extensive cartographic functionality
  • Graph Layout: displays any sort of network or graph. It can be used to create
    workflow displays and network diagrams
  • Business Graphic Objects (BGO): a module of point and click graphic objects
  • Gantt Charts: a module for displaying task and resource schedules as charts
