ILOG Forms Technical Advisory Board
To keep its software among the most advanced, ILOG has formed a
Technical Advisory Board to further strengthen the companys
ties with the technical and scientific community.
Dr. Robert Bixby has stepped down from the ILOG Board of Directors
to chair the new committee. Dr. Bixby was appointed to the board
of directors in 1997 after ILOGs purchase of CPLEX Optimization,
Inc., which he co-founded. Dr. Bixby is a Noah Harding Professor

and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
"Bobs technical credentials and leadership through his
tenure on the ILOG board and as co-director of our optimization
research and development efforts," says Pierre Haren, ILOG
CEO, "make him the right person to lead our efforts to keep
ILOG technology on the cutting edge of the industry."
ILOG Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Patrick Albert is
also a member of the new committee, and to ensure input from international
sources, Dr. Martin Groetschel, vice president of the Konrad Center
for Information Technology at the Technical University in Berlin;

the French national institute for computer science; and Dr. Ben
Shneiderman of the Department of Computer Science of the College
Park University, Maryland, have been appointed.
Dr. Groetschel is well known for his work in the fields of math
programming and operations research. Dr. Kahn is one of Europes
leading experts in the fields of computer science and information
technology and has held numerous scientific committee posts. Dr.

E-Optimization.com Makes Debut
ILOG lifted the veil on the new e-Optimization Community (www.e-Optimization.com) at the Institute of Operations Research and Management Sciences
(INFORMS) conference in Salt Lake City in May.
The vendor-neutral web site is designed to increase awareness of optimization
technology through easy-to-understand documentation, and bring together academics, end
users and professional programmers to share their knowledge and accomplishments.
The online community has already attracted
contributions from many top companies and research institutions in the optimization field.
Participating companies include CAP Gemini, EDS, PeopleSoft, Sabre Technologies, SCT and SAP, while
more than 24 academic institutions, including Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech and Princeton,
are fully aboard. The community is available at no charge to any organization or
individual interested in optimization.
"By bring FORMS, "e-Optimization.com supports INFORMS efforts to extend
the professionalism and reach of the industry."
The new site offers general background and technical information for experts and
non-experts, with quick, easy access to industry trends, technologies and resources.
New R&D Vice President
Jean-François Abramatic, chairman of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), has been
appointed senior vice president of research and development, reporting to ILOG President
and CEO Pierre Haren.
Abramatic resigned from
the ILOG Board of Directors, which he joined in 1994, to take the new position.
