Gesellschaft Battles Traffic with ILOG JViews Interfaces
New system accessible to public through Internet

Combating traffic problems requires accurate data on road usage. Gesellschaft für Verkehrsdaten GmbH (GV) has created a system for monitoring the flow of traffic on major German highways, and is making the data it collects available through graphical interfaces developed with ILOG JViews.

ILOG JViews-driven interface

The Düsseldorf-based company has installed approximately 3,500 sensors along the highways. They count vehicles as they pass, collecting data used to determine traffic volume. The stationary system is supplemented by floating car data (FCD), telemetric information acquired from vehicles equipped with special transmitters. The FCD shows the flow rate of traffic, enabling the company to also show the speed at which vehicles are moving.

ILOG JViews was selected for the project because of the speed with which it can take data from several different sources and process it into meaningful graphical representations. ILOG JViews, which is certified 100% Pure Java™, comes with an extensive library of graphic objects, powerful editors and application programming interfaces, and a map handler for applying the most widely used image formats.

With ILOG JViews, GV has created animated interfaces graphically showing traffic data georeferenced in real time on maps of the highways. Road planners are already using the traffic data in determining ways to ease road congestion and reduce the impact of vehicle pollution on the environment.

The system is also accessible through the Internet, allowing drivers to check road conditions. With such emerging technologies as the Wireless Application Protocol and on-board navigational systems, drivers may soon be able to access the system from their vehicles, enabling them to change their itineraries while on the road.

Tegaron Tracks Vehicles with ILOG JViews
Speed sets Java visualizer apart from other systems in displaying vast amounts of data

Tegaron Telematics GmbH has adopted ILOG JViews for the company's line of navigational and tracking systems for motor vehicles.

Headquartered in Bonn, Tegaron specializes in systems that enable transport operators to track their vehicles and inform drivers of road conditions. Taxi, bus and delivery services alike benefit from Tegaron systems, which use GSM mobile phone technology to transmit telemetry data gathered with the satellite-based Global Positioning System (GPS).

Tegaron reports changes in traffic conditions faster than most other services, including the Allgemeiner Deutscher Auto Club. In 85% of the cases, Tegaron is faster than public sources, with a reporting time difference of as much as an hour.

Tegaron ILOG JViews interface

According to Bernd Günther, head developer at Tegaron, ILOG JViews was chosen for its ability to quickly process and display a vast amount of data from different sources. After extensive benchmarking with an Oracle 8i database, ILOG JViews was selected from among several leading visualization development systems.

ILOG JViews instills Tegaron systems with more than unbeatable speed. The ILOG component renders detailed displays that ensure pinpoint accuracy in georeferencing vehicle locations.

Certified 100% Pure Java™, ILOG JViews comes with an extensive library of graphic objects, powerful editors and application programming interfaces, and a map handler for applying the most widely used image formats. With it, Tegaron has an unbeatable time-to-market advantage for new systems equipped with unequaled speed and quality for displaying maps, traffic conditions and vehicle locations. Furthermore, the displays use easily understood graphic elements, such as icons, lines and colors, to help the end user readily understand transmitted information.
