ILOG Elixir
Get more from Flex
When Adobe Flex 3 comes out in early 2008, there’ll be nothing else like it on the market. It will provide the most advanced user experience and productive development environment for Web-based applications. And to further tip the scale in its favor, Adobe has entered into its first-ever reseller agreement by accepting to market ILOG Elixir, an add-on that brings the best of ILOG visualization to the Adobe Flex platform.
Adobe Flex 3 is a cross-platform, open-source framework that extends Flash for making rich Internet applications (RIAs). It enables developers to create expressive, high-performance applications that run identically on all major browsers and operating systems.
Web-based dashboards for crucial operations, such as sales, supply-chain management and logistics, turn data streams into real-time graphics that can be resized and modified on the fly, and navigated smoothly and with complete control over positioning.
“Flex is indeed a solid foundation for
next-generation RIA applications,” says Erwan Paccard, ILOG product lead for Elixir, “and I’m very pleased with the agreement we formed with Adobe to bring Elixir to life.”
Adding more graphics and maps
ILOG Elixir extends Adobe Flex 3 with visualization for which ILOG is renowned:
- 2D chart extensions that include radar charts and treemaps for analyzing large data sets
- Full 3D charts that include bar/column, area, line and pie displays
- Scheduling displays with Gantt charts
- Organizational charts
- Interactive maps of the world for dashboards
Adobe Flex 3 is needed to run ILOG Elixir. Both are in beta and can be downloaded from the Internet:
LogicTools Supply Chain Analyst 6.0
Take full advantage of safety stock
ILOG’s LogicTools division recently released Supply Chain Analyst (SCA) 6.0, a planning solution that includes tactical inventory optimization for safety stock and service levels.
Safety stock provides protection against running out of stock during the time it takes to replenish inventory. It serves as “insurance” for when actual usage exceeds projected demand. Effective inventory optimization reduces inventory levels while maintaining sufficient safety stock to support or increase service levels.
Traditional supply chain planning applications provide basic inventory calculation capabilities but leave the parameter settings for safety stock and service levels up to the users. As companies must continue determining these settings using spreadsheet calculations or rule-of-thumb approximations, they cannot fully benefit from these applications.
SCA 6.0 supports sophisticated analysis and product-differentiated strategies for positioning and stocking inventory throughout the supply chain. SCA accommodates all types of stock, including finished goods, work in process and raw materials, and its output can be fed into traditional planning applications, producing better performance based on optimal inventory and service level metrics.
“Supply Chain Analyst is now ready to provide users with both strong strategic and tactical capabilities,” says Dr. Michael S. Watson, director at LogicTools. “Supply Chain Analyst 6.0 comes with embedded integration capabilities that make it easier and faster to create robust solutions that can be deployed in an enterprise environment.”
SCA 6.0 also delivers:
- Web services and data stores that enable the configuration of business and data workflows to seamlessly integrate SCA with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and advanced planning system (APS) solutions
- Automated two-way flows of data from ERP and APS solutions into SCA that allow tactical users to monitor and identify exceptions via configurable exception reports and alerts
- User dashboards and configurable reports that can be created to view key performance metrics such as turns, working capital and service levels
- User overrides with reason codes that can be compared to optimized targets to determine whether users are improving or hurting overall inventory performance

ILOG BRMS Resource Center
The ILOG Discussion Groups also support the newly created ILOG BRMS Resource Center, part of ILOG’s effort to make its BRMS technology more accessible to organizations worldwide.
Through the new center, people can download ILOG JRules Trial, the six-month trial version of ILOG JRules, to assure themselves that the product has the right fit for their BRMS projects.
The center includes white papers, online tutorials, recorded Web seminars and analyst reports, and the ILOG Discussion Groups have a forum to help people test drive ILOG JRules Trial.
The forums can be found at http://forums.ilog.com, and the center at http://www.ilog.com/brms/.
