ILOG OPL Development Studio 4.0
Sequel to faster solutions
ILOG OPL Development Studio 4.0 has arrived, delivering a long list of major improvements, including greater performance and a full-featured scripting language. The new ILOG OPL Development Studio provides a modeling language and an integrated development environment for writing optimization applications using ILOG CPLEX. These solutions are used in industries ranging from finance to manufacturing to optimize plans, schedules and key assets such as stock portfolios and production resources.
“OPL has always been the fastest tool for building optimization applications,” says Greg Glockner, senior product manager at ILOG, “and we added features while making it run faster. With the improvement in performance and a full-featured scripting language, more developers will be able to use OPL 4.0 to slash the time to develop powerful optimization applications.”
Optimization developers will enjoy:
- Better performance: 1.5x faster and 40 percent less memory
- Increased separation of data from models to ease the transition from test data to production data sources
- Support for quadratic programming, including quadratic constraints over continuous and discrete decision variables
- New scripting, with JavaScript replacing OPLScript as a rich, robust language for data preprocessing, solution postprocessing and flow control
- Enhanced model debugging via constraint expansion and solution pause-and-resume
- Greater syntax consistency for cleaner code
ILOG OPL Development Studio uses ILOG Concert Technology, a set of high-level modeling objects that reduces development time by simplifying the expression of optimization problems. Hot and ready to serve
ILOG’s R&D team has been busy cooking up new releases of our visualization products to satisfy our customers’ appetite for the latest technologies. Just up are ILOG Views 5.1, ILOG JViews 6.5 and ILOG JTGO 4.5.
ILOG Views 5.1
ILOG continues ILOG Views’ ever-expanding support for new technologies, languages, platforms and services. Additions include:
- Support for several new operating systems and compiler platforms
- Support for Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g
- Full integration of ILOG Views 5.01 enhancements
- Full documentation for updates and fixes
- Standard and Japanese versions packaged together
ILOG Views 5.1 is fully compatible with the last release, so no modifications to existing code will be needed to take advantage of the new features.
ILOG JViews 6.5 and ILOG JTGO 4.5
Keeping our users current with developments in the Java world, our latest “J” releases provide a variety of new features, including:
- Support for the new J2SE 5.0 platform
- Examples for integrating ILOG JViews displays with the popular Eclipse Platform
- ILOG JViews support for the new Web-client standard, Java Server Faces

QAViews
Better testing = robust solutions
The benefits of fully testing applications before deploying them are numerous: fewer bugs, reliable performance, fewer compatibility issues – in short, less downtime and fewer costs after deployment.
Unfortunately, the time and budget constraints that come with any project limit the windows of opportunity for testing an application under development. And while benchmarks are accurate in the shop, they never fully match real-life operating conditions.
Pacte Novation’s QAViews solves this problem for ILOG Views users. Based on Compuware’s QACenter Enterprise Edition suite, QAViews is specifically designed to test windows applications developed with ILOG Views components.
One of ILOG’s first partners, Pacte Novation created QAViews in collaboration with Compuware. The program enables developers and testers to launch automated testing campaigns to thoroughly and systematically check all the ILOG Views components in an application. Users also get precise reports with complete test results.
