Tilion Extends Performance Management
ILOG JRules broadens SCPMS service with exception identification

Tilion Inc. is extending its subscription-based Supply Chain Performance Management Service (SCPMS) with a facility for real-time exception identification using ILOG JRules, the leading business rule software component in Java.

VCM News

Supply-chain event management has become the fastest-growing segment of the supply-chain management (SCM) market. AMR Research foresees the revenue for this segment surpassing $1.1 billion by 2005, and event management eventually being a key component of every supply chain application. Tilion's adoption of ILOG JRules for this space places the component squarely on the executable side of SCM. Already seven of the top 11 SCM vendors rely on ILOG optimization components in planning solutions.

"By introducing ILOG JRules 3.5 into our Supply Chain Performance Management Service, we have significantly extended our offering to customers," says Steve Geary, vice president of supply chain solutions at Tilion. "Not only does business rule management software make our application faster and more dynamic, it provides the flexible infrastructure to tailor processes to fit particular trading communities."

SCPMS gives companies the information they need to identify and eliminate problems before they have a detrimental effect on overall supply chain efficiency and, ultimately, profitability. With ILOG JRules, SCPMS lets Tilion customers set their own thresholds for event identification. This enables them to make more timely and informed business decisions to maximize supply chain performance and efficiency.

The goal of the project is to provide a true knowledge management workflow tool that is easy to deploy and use. The new workflow option will enable users to manage business processes directly from a standard Web browser, to create new process definitions, maintain processes and view the statuses of open business cases. ILOG JViews for Workflow provides a comprehensive set of components for building business process modelers and real-time displays, enabling developers to bring flexible systems to market quickly.

ILOG JViews lets Hyperwave concentrate on its core competency: knowledge management. The ILOG visualization product comes with powerful tools such as smart diagramming and real-time graphical animation for creating state-of-the-art interfaces. They enable Java developers to create a new class of interfaces, including modelers, executive dashboards and administrator screens.

Based on the award-winning ILOG JViews Component Suite, ILOG JViews for Workflow cuts development time by at least a third, with prebuilt and pretested business graphic objects and development tools. Its open and extensible architecture ensures scalability and performance, and its high flexibility enables it to be deployed across a broad range of Java and thin clients.

Singapore Press

Dummying newspapers takes a strong sense of organization and space, or in Singapore Press Holding's case, the Press Configuration and Layout System (PCLS), based on ILOG Solver and ILOG Views, the leading C++ constraint programming and visualization software components, respectively.

SPH is the national newspaper publisher in Singapore, and has an average circulation of 1.3 million copies a day. To aid production, SPH had Clarity Systems, a specialist in decision-support systems, develop PCLS for positioning advertisements. The system optimally lays out each issue with ILOG Solver, leaving enough space for the news, and then displays the results with a graphical interface built with ILOG Views.

"ILOG's component-based products and good technical support allowed us to develop the applications for the system much more quickly," says Vijaykumar Shah, senior vice president of operations at Clarity Systems. "ILOG Solver and ILOG Views are reliable products with shorter learning curves, allowing us to concentrate on developing the whole system."
