ILOG buys JLOOXAcquisition
ILOG buys JLOOX
Further strengthening its lead position in visualization software, ILOG is acquiring the JLOOX product line, along with its customer base, from Canadian software maker eNGENUITY Technologies Inc. (www.engenuitytech.com).

The acquisition transfers the intellectual property and other assets of JLOOX to ILOG, which also takes on board 10 eNGENUITY employees. JLOOX’s customer base includes companies in manufacturing, transportation and defense.

“ILOG is committed to offering the finest set of visualization products in the world, and this announcement validates this commitment,” says Margaret Thorpe, ILOG vice president of product marketing. “We feel the combined strengths of the ILOG JViews and JLOOX technologies will create an unbeatable combination.”

ILOG will soon be able to offer the best features of both ILOG JViews and JLOOX. ILOG’s expertise in network management and business process modeling will benefit current JLOOX customers, while the animated map functionality of JLOOX will be a plus for ILOG customers. ILOG will support both product lines for the near term, and enhance its own product line with tools and capabilities from JLOOX.

ILOG also plans to enter into a three-year original equipment maker (OEM) agreement with eNGENUITY, allowing the continued use of ILOG visualization technologies in eNGENUITY STAGE products. In divesting itself of JLOOX, eNGENUITY will further focus on its core areas: simulation and prototyping.

School honors ILOG CEO
The École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) has given ILOG CEO Pierre Haren its 2004 IT manager of the year award for his outstanding leadership in developing ILOG into an international company.

“It’s an honor to be selected for an award that has come to hold such great meaning for IT leaders in France,” says Mr. Haren. “And for us, it further attests to ILOG’s establishment as a multinational player.”

Mr. Haren was selected for the award by a jury of his peers from the IT industry. Last year’s award went to Pasquale Pistorio, CEO of STMicroelectronics.

Profitable compliance
CIOs from Asia’s banking and financial service sectors recently gathered at an ILOG seminar in Singapore to discuss the ways business rules can help their companies be more compliant and profitable. The situation they face is challenging.

Enterprises in the region must comply with a steady stream of new laws and regulations as governments clamp down on tax fraud and money laundering. The situation is compounded for those trying to do business with U.S. companies, as the United States has stringent laws for corporate compliance.

“Many enterprises across the region are stuck in a rut,” said Foo Jong Tong, general manager of ILOG’s Asia Pacific operations, in cautioning seminar participants about the high price of noncompliance. “Their challenge is how to transition to compliant processes while keeping their businesses running at full speed.”

During the seminar, ILOG representatives and customers explained the role IT plays as a critical tool for staying on the right side of the law and strengthening the bottom line.

“We follow and comply with regulations all around the world and in real time,” said Wai Mun of BIL International. “It’s crucial to have good processes and automated rule applications to keep us compliant.”
