ILOG JRules 5.1
One to rule them all
The newly released ILOG JRules 5.1 delivers major enhancements to the industry’s leading business rule management system (BRMS), including cross-platform deployment for sharing rules among Java and .NET applications.
Policy managers often want to deploy the same business rules across Java and .NET platforms. This has traditionally required them to write and test the rules twice, costing both time and effort in duplicating work and introducing more opportunities for errors.
ILOG JRules 5.1 enables the policy manager to write a rule once and deploy it to both platforms. Using the ILOG Rule Builder or Web Rule Builder, the business user defines and deploys the rule, which is executed natively with the ILOG JRules rule engine on the Java platform and the ILOG JRules .NET rule engine on the .NET platform. The rule is written and tested once, and cross-platform deployment ensures applications consistently apply the rule.
And there’s more
ILOG JRules 5.1 also improves the ILOG Business Rule Execution Server, which provides a runtime execution environment that integrates the ILOG JRules business rule engine into the J2EE platform. The server now supports IBM WebSphere Application Server 6, as well as the leading application servers from BEA, JBoss, ObjectWeb and Apache Tomcat.
The BRE Server has also been extended to support J2SE. Users can start developing their applications in a J2SE environment using the same API they would use for deploying on a J2EE application server. This makes moving from a J2SE prototype to an industrial J2EE deployment simpler and less prone to error.

ILOG ODMS
Optimization on a roll
ILOG introduces a new era in optimization with the ILOG Optimization Decision Management System (ODMS). A complete set of development tools and optimization engines, ILOG ODMS supports the entire application development and deployment process for interactive, optimization-based decision-support applications.
With ILOG Optimization Decision Manager 1.0 (ODM), ILOG adds a major new dimension to the use of optimization by business people. Traditionally, it has been difficult to deliver the flexibility and interactivity needed by business users. ILOG ODM changes this by enabling business users to create scenarios by modifying demand or resource data, operating constraints or cost and yield assumptions directly, allowing them to take full advantage of what-if scenario analysis, scenario comparison and goal trade-offs to find the best possible resource planning and scheduling solutions.
The 2005 product road map for ILOG ODMS includes full interoperability between:
- ILOG CPLEX, ILOG’s math programming engines (linear programming and mixed integer programming)
- ILOG OPL Development Studio 4.0, for building models
- ILOG ODM, for application development and deployment
New and improved
The latest versions of our complete line of optimization products include:
- ILOG OPL Development Studio 4.0 – greater performance, easier deployment path, enhanced graphical user interface, better ILOG CPLEX support, and full-featured scripting language
- ILOG CPLEX 9.1 – improved MIP starts, Gomory cuts for MIQP and new MIP heuristic
- ILOG Solver 6.1 – new impact-based search, customizable goals for integer variables, new iterative improvement methods and improved constraint propagation
- ILOG Scheduler 6.1 – large neighborhood search, resource calendars, resource constraint shapes and performance improvements
- ILOG Dispatcher 4.1 – dramatically improved local search, new internal dimensions, modeling for alternative visits and new equivalence classes

ILOG Project Viewer
Share the joy
Looking for an easily way to share Microsoft Project files with co-workers, but at a price guaranteed to put a smile on your manager’s face? ILOG Project Viewer may be your best answer.
Completely free, ILOG Project Viewer displays XML data from Microsoft Project in Gantt, resource or calendar views. It is a great introduction to ILOG Gantt for .NET, which can be used to make fully functional Gantt charts within Microsoft Visual Studio .NET or Borland C# Builder in just minutes.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for .NET users to discover the tremendous value offered by ILOG Gantt for .NET,” says Patrick Mégard, director of visualization products at ILOG. “They can see the accuracy with which information is displayed, and appreciate the greater ease with which they can understand it.”
To benefit from ILOG Project Viewer:
- Download ILOG Project Viewer from our website, and invite your co-workers to do so as well. (http://projectviewer.ilog.com)
- Save Microsoft Project files in XML
- Send the XML files to your co-workers or place them on a server
- Open the files with ILOG Project Viewer
