MGIMGI increases operational effectiveness
SAP-ILOG solution cuts vehicle costs
By combining the power of SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer (SAP APO) with the versatility of ILOG Optimization Development Framework (ILOG ODF), MG Industries (MGI: www.mgindustries.com) has obtained a routing solution that addresses the complex requirements of its specialized truck-based gas delivery system.

MGI is a supplier of industrial, medical and specialty gases, gas equipment, welding supplies and cost-saving technical services. With 46 locations in the United States and Canada, the company operates fleets of specially equipped trucks that need to be tightly scheduled to ensure on-time delivery while reducing operational costs.

To extend its SAP APO vendor-managed inventory environment to include routing the trucks, MGI applied ILOG ODF. A product of ILOG's partnership with SAP, ILOG ODF enables SAP APO to tackle the supply-chain planning problems unique to certain industries.

"Using ILOG ODF, MG Industries was able to build and deploy a complex vehicle-routing optimization extension that captures our distinct business requirements. The MGI-customized extension plugs into SAP APO and gives us a single planning system that addresses our unique business needs."

Heavy-duty configuration
Tavant equips industrial machinery maker Bobcat
Buyers of large industrial equipment from Bobcat Company will soon be able to configure their purchases with intuitive product configuration supplied by Tavant Technologies Inc. (www.tavant.com) and powered by ILOG JConfigurator.

Tavant develops solutions that improve collaboration between manufacturers and sellers by automating processes such as order, warranty and catalog management, as well as Web marketing activities targeting the end customer. These solutions lower costs, strengthen customer relationships, and provide an overall better customer experience.
ILOG JConfigurator, embedded in the Tavant MultiChannel suite of applications, will enable Bobcat customers to easily configure industrial, construction and agricultural machinery.

The results are a shortened sales cycle and reduced costs, while enabling Bobcat to more accurately meet customer demand.

"ILOG shares our goal of providing custom configuration and optimization solutions to businesses like Bobcat in 90 days or less," says Aseem Mital, vice president of marketing at Tavant. "We have a unique implementation of ILOG's configuration technology, which augments our ability to quickly deploy our comprehensive solution in large enterprises."

Tavant configuration and optimization solutions include guided selling systems, customer self-service systems, complex product configurators, financial services, and industrial equipment manufacturing, and are used by leading global companies, including Ingersoll-Rand Company.
