Becky Roller Senior Director ILOG Worldwide Marketing Editorial
by Becky Roller, Senior Director of ILOG Worldwide Marketing
In 2003, corporations around the world were greatly impacted by new compliance regulations. These new regulations -- Sarbanes Oxley Act, Patriot Act, FDA, Basel II -- all have at least one thing in common: They are forcing companies to evaluate their current processes and retool how information is shared and managed across the enterprise. Those who do not comply stand to face severe consequences. In this issue, we focus on customers who have implemented ILOG's Business Rule Management System to address compliance issues and improve operational efficiencies to lower the cost of noncompliance by minimizing the risk of failure or reacting promptly to a policy breach.

Business Rule Management System Business Rule Management System
New generation of software
With its enterprise Business Rule Management System (BRMS), ILOG has ushered in a new generation of software products. This integrated platform is:

  • Comprehensive, with tools for each of the different users managing and deploying business rules at a company
  • Scalable across applications, architectures and platforms
  • Versatile, by supporting the execution of different types of business logic

ILOG BRMS provides several fundamental business functions, including automation to apply policies, procedures and best practices; the ability to create the most efficient business plans; and the ability to monitor critical business events and key performance indicators.

In doing so, it delivers business benefits that include:

  • Agility through tools that enable users in a variety of business functions to easily modify business policies, procedures and best practices quickly, and business rule engines that efficiently and securely execute these rules
  • Control through a centralized business rule repository that lets the right people safely access, modify and distribute rules at the right time
  • Efficiency through specialized business rule engines that enable users to maximize the performance of company resources, resulting in measurable and clearly demonstrable increases in return on investment
  • ILOG foresees BRMS becoming the new standard for business rule development, as it allows more people to do more with an essential software technology.

We are already well on our way toward establishing this new platform with these BRMS products:

  • ILOG JRules (Java) and ILOG Rules (C++) packaged with a generic rule engine that enables the automation of business policies, procedures and best practices.
  • ILOG JConfigurator packaged with a constraint-based configuration engine that enables the automated configuration of products and services
  • .
