Dassault Systemes Selects ILOG JRules for Knowledge Management Application

ILOG's Leading Business Rule Software Personalizes Enterprise Portal; Manages Business and Project Information

PARIS, France and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - January 21, 2002 - ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; Euronext SICOVAM: 006673), the world's leading supplier of software components, today announced that Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: 13065, DSY.PA), the premier provider of 3D PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software solutions for manufacturing industries, has selected ILOG JRules™ business rule management software to administer project and decision-support data stored within the company intranet. ILOG JRules is used to customize and filter the information that 3,500 Dassault Systemes employees worldwide access in real-time over the intranet.

ILOG JRules was implemented in just 10 days, enabling the rapid deployment of Generic View Definition (GVD) application platform, part of Dassault Systemes intranet. GVD currently stores 6,000 referenced electronic documents relating to the company's operations, including the management of Dassault's CATIA, ENOVIA and DELMIA software development projects. By matching user profiles and projects, and managing the 5,000 business rules defining access to these projects, the ILOG JRules component is able to personalize the type of information that company employees in Asia, Europe and North America are authorized to access via the GVD platform.

"We have now become a global company with people working in teams all over the world," says Nathalie Irvine, Chief Information Officer at Dassault Systemes. This prompted us to invest massively in making the information available to all using a common infrastructure. Shared and equal visibility for all of our sites is key to our global efficiency. We were aware of the power of business rule software for knowledge management applications and determined it was the right technology to help us."

Because of its unique capability of allowing business users to create and maintain business rules, ILOG JRules ensures easy maintenance by allowing the application to be regularly updated to reflect the users' requirements. Also important to Dassault Systemes' selection of ILOG JRules is that, unlike other business rule management software, it integrates well with popular application server platforms. Thanks to its open architecture, it can be embedded into an Enterprise Java Bean, which is a key building block for most Java application server platforms today. Dassault Systemes' rule-based GVD application runs on both Silverstream and IBM WebSphere application servers.

ILOG has pioneered many technical and ease-of-use advances in business rule management software, including introducing the concept of "business rules for business people" with features that let developers create business rules in industry-specific languages. This allows non-IT personnel to create business rules, making software applications more dynamic and responsive to changing business conditions. The company also recently unveiled the industry's first XML-centric business rule engine, ILOG JRules 3.5, and is playing an active role in the definition of business rule standards. ILOG participates in standardization efforts with the Java community, the OASIS group(XML.org), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and with the business process management initiative (BPMI).
