ILOG Enables Nedasco to Achieve a 50 Percent Increase in Underwriting Productivity

PARIS. – May 29, 2007 – ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; Euronext: ILO, ISIN: FR0004042364), today announced that Nedasco, a leading Dutch financial wholesale company and insurance underwriter, has experienced a 50 per cent increase in productivity after implementing ILOG JRules®, a key offering in ILOG’s Business Rule Management System (BRMS), product line. Using JRules, Nedasco automated its insurance underwriting process and insurance policy requests can now be processed within one working day.

Nedasco supports 26 insurance companies in the Dutch risk, health and life insurance markets. The company provides its services exclusively to 1,200independent sales agents. Following an extensive technical evaluation of commercial BRMS platforms in 2004, Nedasco selected JRules to automate the underwriting of insurance policies.

ILOG JRules was chosen due to its ability to handle a large number of complex rules efficiently, which currently number 3,000. These business rules are associated with Nedasco’s many suppliers, lines of business and sales channels. By replacing its old paper-based system, JRules makes the acceptance of insurance policies quicker, less costly, and more accurate and efficient. ILOG JRules is used throughout the underwriting process for such functions as eligibility determination, risk assessment, rating, referrals and quoting.

Automating the underwriting process enables employees in the acceptance department to be freed from repetitive, manual tasks and to concentrate on more complicated cases while ensuring a higher rate of straight-through-processing. In addition, expert knowledge from employees regarding the insurance acceptance process has been captured in business rules, which are embedded within the rule repository allowing the quality of the process to be increased and standardized across the organization.

Nedasco’s customers - the independent agents - also enjoy significant benefits from the automation. Not only is the underwriting process more efficient, but they also have more control over the entire process since they can now share information in real-time regarding the status of an application. They can see which rules were executed to accept, reject or manually review a policy request.

By upgrading to JRules 6.5, Nedasco has taken advantage of the new Semantic Query feature which provides the ability to query the contents of rule sets for consistency as well as the ability to find rules based on their semantic content. For example, a user can request all rules that might be triggered by the condition “customer age is greater than 21,” or all rules that “modify the credit rating of the customer.”

“The development of our underwriting system facilitated by ILOG JRules, has enabled us to provide a faster, more efficient and accurate service to our customers. It has also strengthened the position of Nedasco, and our intermediaries, within the competitive Dutch insurance market,” said Erik Geels, Director Finance & ICT, Nedasco. “Insurance processes are highly rule-intensive and we chose ILOG BRMS because we wanted the flexibility a BRMS provides. Essentially, we wanted to standardize with a technology that we could reuse for multiple applications, as the need arises. Following the success of this project within the acceptance department, we are currently considering extending the project to also include our claims handling process.”

ILOG has consistently built on its history of product innovation to make it one of the industry’s leading provider of business rule management system software.
