ILOG Elixir 1.0 Installation


This page describes the installation procedure for the ILOG Elixir 1.0 product. It is divided into the following sections:

Installing ILOG Elixir 1.0

ILOG Elixir 1.0 can be installed on Microsoft® Windows®, Macintosh, or Linux® systems. For each platform there is a separate installer that allows you to install ILOG Elixir 1.0.

To install ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Microsoft Windows systems:

  1. Make sure that your system environment meets the system requirements.
  2. The default location of the installation directory for ILOG Elixir 1.0 is:
c:\Program Files\ILOG\ILOG Elixir 1.0
  1. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 Release Notes for any late-breaking information, updates, and known issues.
  2. If you have the ILOG Elixir 1.0 DVD, insert it into the drive. Otherwise, download the installer file for your platform from the Adobe Web site or a designated network.
  3. On Windows Vista® systems only, if you are not administrator of your machine you must select Run as administrator if you want to install in c:\Program Files or some other system folder.
  4. Open or double-click the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installer executable file. If you are using the DVD, the executable file is in the Windows directory.
  5. Accept the license agreement and follow the prompts.
  6. Select the installation that corresponds to your Adobe Flex Builder 3 installation. The three choices that are presented to you correspond to the following:
    1. You installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone.
    2. You installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation.
    3. You did not install Flex Builder 3.
  7. (First time only) Run the ILOG Elixir License Activator from the Windows start menu and enter the ILOG Elixir 1.0 serial number.
  8. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 documentation that is available from the following locations:
    1. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone:
    2. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation:
    3. If you did not install Flex Builder 3:

The standalone HTML documentation is available from the Windows Start menu.

To install ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Macintosh systems:

  1. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 Release Notes for any late-breaking information, updates, and known issues.
  2. If you have the ILOG Elixir 1.0 DVD, insert it into the drive. Otherwise, download the installer file for your platform from the Adobe Web site or a designated network.
  3. Open or double-click the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installer zip file. If you are using the DVD, the zip file is in the Macintosh directory. The installer application will appear on the Macintosh desktop.
  4. Open or double-click the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installer application to begin the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installation process.
  5. Accept the license agreement and follow the prompts.
  6. Select the installation that corresponds to your Adobe Flex Builder 3 installation. The three choices that are presented to you correspond to the following:
    1. You installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone.
    2. You installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation.
    3. You did not install Flex Builder 3.
  7. (First time only) Run the ILOG Elixir License Activator from the ILOG Elixir 1.0 folder and enter the ILOG Elixir 1.0 serial number.
  8. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 documentation that is available from the following locations:
    1. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone:
    2. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation:
    3. If you did not install Flex Builder 3:

To install ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Linux systems:

  1. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 Release Notes for any late-breaking information, updates, and known issues.
  2. If you have the ILOG Elixir 1.0 DVD, insert it into the drive. Otherwise, download the installer file for your platform from the Adobe Web site or a designated network.
  3. Open, double-click, or run in your favorite shell, the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installer binary file. If you are using the DVD, the bin file is in the Linux directory.
  4. Accept the license agreement and follow the prompts.
  5. Select the installation that corresponds to your Adobe Flex Builder 3 installation. The three choices that are presented to you correspond to the following:
    1. You installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone.
    2. You installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation.
    3. You did not install Flex Builder 3.
  6. (First time only) Run the ILOG Elixir License Activator from the ILOG Elixir 1.0/LicenseActivator directory and enter the ILOG Elixir 1.0 serial number.
  7. Read the ILOG Elixir 1.0 documentation that is available from the following locations:
    1. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 stand-alone:
    2. If you installed the Flex Builder 3 plugins in an existing Eclipse installation:
    3. If you did not install Flex Builder 3, this is the default option for Linux:

Getting started with ILOG Elixir 1.0

ILOG Elixir 1.0 comes with a set of samples and full documentation. You can start with ILOG Elixir 1.0 in a way that matches your learning style:

  1. Read the documentation as described in Installing ILOG Elixir 1.0.
  2. Run the samples. On Windows systems, the samples can be run from the Windows start menu. On other platforms, the samples are in the samples directory of the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installation. In addition to the samples there is also a Samples Explorer which can be used to run the samples and to see the associated source code for each sample.
  3. Create a simple application by using your IDE.
    1. Launch Adobe Flex Builder 3 or Eclipse.
    2. Create a new Adobe Flex project, either for the Web (run in Flash player) or for the Desktop (run in Adobe AIR), by clicking File > New.
    3. Right-click your project and choose the Properties menu item.
    4. Choose the Flex Build Path or Air Build Path section accordingly.
    5. Add the ILOG Elixir SWC files to your project by clicking the Add SWC button. ILOG Elixir comes in the form of two SWC files:
    6. Drag and drop an ILOG Elixir component from the Components palette onto the design view.
    7. Configure its properties.
    8. Run the application.

Uninstalling ILOG Elixir 1.0

To uninstall ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Windows systems:

  1. Select the Windows Control Panel which should be accessible from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Windows Vista systems).
  3. Select the entry for ILOG Elixir 1.0 and click Uninstall.
  4. Click the Uninstall button in the ILOG Elixir 1.0 uninstaller dialog box and follow the prompts.
  5. Click the Done button.

To uninstall ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Macintosh systems:

  1. Go to the ILOG Elixir 1.0 folder.
  2. Double-click Uninstall ILOG Elixir 1.0.
  3. Click the Uninstall button in the ILOG Elixir 1.0 uninstaller dialog box and follow the prompts.
  4. Click the Done button.

To uninstall ILOG Elixir 1.0 on Linux systems:

  1. Go to the ILOG Elixir 1.0 installation directory.
  2. Go to the Uninstall ILOG Elixir 1.0 directory and run the Uninstall_ILOG_Elixir_1.0 application.
  3. Click the Uninstall button in the ILOG Elixir 1.0 uninstaller dialog box and follow the prompts.
  4. Click the Done button.
