Placeholders indicate places in a rule statement that need to be completed with the name of a business term, a value, or some other rule statement fragment in order to construct a valid phrase. Placeholders are identified with angle brackets. For example, the following building block contains a placeholder <a customer>:

The options proposed in the completion menu may contain additional placeholders that you must also complete in order to construct a valid phrase.
