If you just want to view the content of a RuleDoc, you can open it as read-only. However, if you want to modify the document or the business rules it contains, you must check out the RuleDoc from the rule repository, save your changes and then check it back into the rule repository when you are finished.
To open a RuleDoc in read-only mode

Locate the RuleDoc in the rule document library on ILOG Rule Team Server for SharePoint.

Click the file name.

A dialog box appears asking you whether you want to open the file in Read Only or Edit mode. Select Read Only, then click OK.
