ILOG Rules for .NET User Guides > ILOG Rule Solutions for Office > Working with rule properties > Insert a read-only rule property

Read-only rule properties are grayed out in the Rule Properties list. You can insert the value of a read-only property into a RuleDoc, but you cannot modify its value.

When you insert a read-only property into your RuleDoc, you have the choice between two types of content control ("locked" or "standard") for displaying the value.

To insert a read-only rule property
  1. Place the insertion point so that it is inside a rule but outside of the rule body.
  2. In the Rule Properties section of the RuleDoc pane, select a read-only property, then click Insert Property in Document.
  3. Select the type of content control ("locked" or "standard") to use to display the value of the read-only property.
  4. A locked read-only content control cannot be edited, and cannot be formatted.
A standard read-only content control can be formatted like other text. You can edit the value of a standard read-only content control, but the value will not be updated in the RuleDoc.
  5. Click OK to insert the property into your RuleDoc.
