ILOG provides connectors that will enable ILOG JRules Business Rule Management System (BRMS) to add business rule management functionality to business process management (BPM) solutions built on IBM WebSphere Business Integration software, including IBM WebSphere MQ Workflow, IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation and IBM WebSphere Process Server (WPS).
ILOG is the first BRMS software vendor to offer integration with the new IBM WPS. ILOG provides seamless integration between ILOG JRules and IBM WPS. Embedded with IBM WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and based on open standards, IBM WPS is designed to reduce the time, cost and risk of integration projects, simplify the process of moving information between applications, and enable IT to be more responsive and flexible to changing business demands.
ILOG JRules complements IBM WebSphere Process Server by automating complex business policies and supporting enterprise-wide and centralized business rule management. The combined offer targets business processes that need BRMS capabilities to enhance agility and flexibility—including pricing, welfare administration, insurance claims processing, loan and insurance underwriting, promotions and loyalty management, among others. These processes are driven by rapidly-changing business rules that drive decision-making for eligibility, risk assessment, pricing, validation and scoring.

Business rule management systems, used in combination with BPM solutions, allow the policies defined by sub-processes or services (such as Service Oriented Architecture, or SOA) to be managed or changed separately from the rest of the application. ILOG BRMS can be leveraged in a BPM solution to automate decisioning, enhance agility and reduced IT maintenance costs.
ILOG JRules BRMS offers a rule repository to centralize business rules. Keeping business rules in one location facilitates their reuse, maintenance and deployment to multiple applications. This eliminates the need to individually update each application with every rule change or wait for the next release of an application to invoke a policy change.
ILOG JRules BRMS lets policy managers make changes directly to business rules. Business analysts no longer have to communicate their requirements to IT staff, who in turn no longer have to modify code to implement rules. The lag time between a change in market conditions and its reflection in enterprise applications is substantially reduced.
ILOG is a member of IBM’s PartnerWorld program, as well as IBM’s Business Performance Management Initiative. ILOG is also an Optimized IBM Partner World industry Network member for Banking, Insurance and the Public Sector.
ILOG also offers ILOG Business Rule Studio, Developer Edition, the first business rule technology for the popular Eclipse integrated development environment, which has been validated for use with IBM WebSphere Studio.

Technical background
IBM WPS is IBM's new foundation for SOA, and provides the process modeling, workflow, monitoring and connectivity that allow organizations to create, change and deploy new processes faster than ever before. ILOG JRules works seamlessly with WPS, giving WebSphere users the same level of speed and flexibility in implementing and managing policies with business rules.
ILOG JRules offers an Eclipse-based plug-in for WebSphere Integration Developer so users can generate a rule service component that adheres to Service Component Architecture (SCA). The component’s services can then be used by business processes. In addition, audit trails detailing which rules are invoked in a transaction can be obtained with the Common Event Infrastructure (CEI) in IBM WPS.
