Easily Manage Decision Logic within COBOL Applications
WebSphere ILOG Rules for COBOL is an add-on module to the WebSphere ILOG JRules business rule management system. It allows organizations which run mission-critical applications on mainframe systems to externalize and manage business rules while maintaining their legacy COBOL applications—without disruption or heavy development efforts. Externalized business rules can also be deployed as decision services within a service-oriented architecture (SOA) strategy.
Websphere ILOG Rules for COBOL makes it easy to:
- Improve the manageability of your COBOL applications
- Execute rules natively within your existing application flows
- Ensure consistency of business decisions across applications
- Create rules for your COBOL applications now and use them in Java and SOA later
How Websphere ILOG Rules for COBOL works
Websphere ILOG Rules for COBOL is the authoring and generation tool for your COBOL applications. It lets you author rules which can be generated as COBOL code, and it leverages Websphere ILOG JRules' capabilities for auditing, versioning and creating metadata for all the business rules used in mainframe systems.
Quickly make changes to your business rules using management tools designed for business users, and then regenerate the rules into COBOL code for execution on the mainframe.
How to use Websphere ILOG Rules for COBOL
All you need to start managing your rules from your COBOL code is a COBOL copybook to identify the input and output fields, along with the rules you need to manage.
There are four basic steps:
- Import the COBOL copybook
- Map the COBOL copybook to the business object model (BOM) methods
- Author the business rules in the ILOG Business Rules Management System (BRMS)
- Generate the COBOL code
