The Dashboard Editor is a point-and-click interface for the easy creation of industrial panels, business dashboards and other generic human-machine interfaces. It allows users to manually place symbols, created with the Symbol Editor , on top of a static background. It then connects them to the underlying data—all without any Java coding.

Adaptability
The Dashboard Editor is delivered with its own application programming interface (API), and can be customized or enhanced. This is useful for organizations that wish to add dedicated editing functions or domain-specific data mapping capabilities.
Features include:
An interactive editor
The ability to create and edit background objects, dynamic symbols and links
Integration with ILOG JViews Charts, adding a full palette of powerful 2D and 3D charts
The ability to import backdrops created with SVG, DXF, JPG, PNG, GIF and other popular image formats
Management of multiple layers for the background graphics
Configuration of each symbol’s default values
Note: With dashboard displays, users manually position the symbols in a view. In a map display, symbols are placed automatically according to the geographic coordinates. In a diagram display, the diagram typically takes advantage of pre-built graph layout algorithms to rearrange the elements in the display. For such diagram and map displays, the Designer for Diagrammer tool, rather than the Dashboard Editor, is used.
