You can run the Symbol Editor under the Windows or UNIX operating systems. The startup conditions are the same in both cases.

Running Under Windows

The Symbol Editor is available in the Start menu under Start>All Programs>ILOG>JViews Diagrammer 8.1>Symbol Editor where ILOG is the default program group. This path may be different if you have installed ILOG JViews Diagrammer into a different program group.

The Symbol Editor software is also available in the <installdir>/jviews-diagrammer81/bin/symboleditor directory. To run it from there, navigate to this directory and double-click run.bat.

Running Under UNIX

The Symbol Editor software is available in the <installdir>/jviews-diagrammer81/bin/symboleditor directory. To run Symbol Editor, navigate to this directory, then enter run.sh.

Note
Make sure your PATH environment variable is set correctly to find Java.

Startup Conditions

When you start the Symbol Editor, the interface is displayed as shown in Figure 1.1.

The way the Symbol Editor operates depends on the mode it is in. You can see the current mode in the title bar, and you can change the mode using the buttons in the vertical toolbar. For a discussion of modes, see Working in Different Modes.

Closing the Symbol Editor

Close the Symbol Editor by selecting File>Exit from the menu bar.

Note
The Symbol Editor stores the interface status when the application is closed.
