Business Objects and Data Sources > Reference Tables for State Visuals > The SONET State Dictionary Visuals

The SONET state dictionary includes six primary states and six secondary states. Elements of this state dictionary were introduced in Link States: the SONET State Dictionary.

Graphical Representation of SONET Primary States

Table A.12 illustrates the graphical representation of the SONET primary states. Table A.13 describes the graphical representations of the common double SONET states.

These states are rendered graphically by changes in the base colors, line styles, and relief.

State Names

In these tables, the symbolic name "Link State Symbol" that appears after each primary state name corresponds to the last part of the variable name holding the state. For example, the "ActiveProtecting" state, which has ActiveProtecting for symbol, has the variable IltSONET.State.ActiveProtecting associated with it in the library.

Graphical Representation of SONET Secondary States

Table A.14 illustrates the graphical representation of the SONET secondary states, or protection switch request indicators. The indicators are always represented by icons that appear near the end of the link on which they are set.

Secondary State Names

In Table A.14, the symbolic name "Secondary State Definition" that appears after each "Secondary State Name" corresponds to the static secondary state definition. For example, the "Manual Switch" secondary state is defined by ManualSwitch, which corresponds to the static definition IltSONET.Protection.ManualSwitch.

Secondary State Icons

It is possible to change the icon associated with a secondary state by using global settings, see Using Global Settings in the Styling documentation. The icon property name to be used with IltSettings.SetValue() must only include the secondary state definition. For example:

For more information on how to use global settings to modify the SONET secondary state icons, see Customizing the SONET State System in the Styling documentation.
